My Story

I believe that telling our story is important. I encourage my clients to write out their stories every year. So here's mine...

Well, bel
ieve it or not that was a while ago and it's time to update my story. The old story still exists, but there is another chapter.

My life today is more about my present than my past. That's a new, healing aspect for me. Even with all those releasing poses I had a hard time forgetting where I came from and the hardships I've been through. Today I can say that is changing. My present is so much more important to me.

This is the year I tured 40. Perhaps that has changed my perspective a bit. This is the year that I realized I have six years with my daughter before she leaves our home for college and her life beyond. This is the year that much has changed for me. I am able to relish my history, but understand that it is fully in the past and use the lessons to create a vibrant, magnificent present.

This is the year that I realized I am one of those women with a tapestry of experience, knowledge and wisdom. Having taught yoga for 10 years now I finally feel like I have something truly wonderful to offer. I always did, but now I understand it. Even with all the trainings and workshops and teaching experience I always felt like I was a beginner. While there is so much out there to learn....always, I understand that what I've accumulated is a wealth of knowledge and I can help others transform their lives. Mind you, this was always my truth it just took me a while to know it in my bones.

So here is my Bio.

Melissa
Mitchell, founder of Breathe Holistic Life Center is a Mom, Wife, Yogi, Cook and Writer. (not to mention daughter, neighbor, caring person and fabulous friend). She has studied and practiced yoga since 1995 and began teaching in 2000. She regularly attends workshops and trainings as well as studies privately. Her interests lie in body mechanics/kinesiology as they help to unlock our pain and facilitate greater freedom and balance in life.  Her main goal is to help students acheive an ease and balance in their lives, leaving them free to focus on their passion.

Melissa integrates a combination of flow yoga, asana study and restorative yoga into life lessons, constantly challenging growth, exploration and journey. Consistently searching for holistic answers, her life, practice and teachings incorporate questions and answers from many traditions, including traditional Western ones.

Melissa's students enjoy her flexibility and ability to customize each session to their needs. In a classroom setting Melissa excels at offering variations of poses and helping students work within their personal needs, encouraging them to challenge themselves and step outside of their comfort zones as appropriate.  Students leave with a sense of peace and relaxation, fully present and connected.

Company History
Breathe is a baby company. My yoga teaching has organically taken me down this new path. Yoga students I had for years began asking me about specific poses and practices. Those that knew I cooked often came to me for nutritional advice. Finally a student at the end of her rope asked for help with her chronic pain. We sat down together and she told me her story. Together we developed a plan that included yoga sequences, meditation practice, specific foods that she would incorporate into her diet and others that she would avoid, along with questions to focus on during journaling sessions. She continued seeing her Western doctors. The pain didn't go away immediately, but she began to feel differently. She began to experience her pain differently, view herself with new eyes and slowly the pain did change and release. That was the birth of Breathe.

Breathe Holistic Life Center is a growing, changing company. I see customers in my home, in their home, in neutral territory. Sometimes I simply give private yoga sessions, sometimes I take on an issue, like pain or fertility, and sometimes I just help people who want better perspective, and more awareness.

Like a baby Breathe will continue to grow, to change, to evolve. I treasure Breathe's babyhood just as I have my human children.
